Relationship between student overall mastery level and student-facing Google Classroom average.
How good of an indicator is Google Classroom average score (over all assignments) of overall level of mastery? If assignments are scored in Google Classroom, but are not tied to a reportable, a biased relationship will result.
If there is a difference between student mastery level categorization in the above figure and the below figure, as indicated by color, then the average score reported in Google Classroom may lead the student into believing they are doing better or worse in the class than they are actually doing. Whether the bias is in the better or worse direction can be determined from looking at whether or not points in the below figure are above or below the dotted line.
This provides a quick diagnostic to assess whether the scores available to students in Google Classroom are in line (or correlate) with the standards based grading framework used by the teacher.

Any unlabeled reportables in this report are for assignments in Google Classroom where no “Grade Category”, or in this case no reportable, was assigned.↩︎
Average numeric scores translate as follows:
if average >= 3.5, then "Exceeding"; if average >= 2.5, then "Meeting"; if average >= 1.5, then "Approaching"; else "Beginning"
.↩︎Mastery levels are indicated by color in graphs.↩︎
